    About Tiny Hearts of America

Tiny Hearts of America is a Columbia, South Carolina nonprofit dedicated to the well-being of children and families. Through six programs, Tiny Tummies, Bright Future, Healing Hearts, Safe Haven Initiative, Community Care, and Tiny Hearts Essentials, we provide food, education, healing, safety, and essential supplies to families who need them most. Our growing team of staff and volunteers is the heart of that work.

    Position Summary

THA is seeking a volunteer HR Generalist to help build and sustain the people systems behind our mission. You will support recruiting, onboarding, volunteer and staff records, and policy compliance across all THA programs, working directly with the Executive Director and program leaders. This is an excellent role for an HR professional who wants to give back, or for someone building nonprofit HR experience.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Support recruiting and applicant tracking in Zoho Recruit, including posting openings, screening applicants, and scheduling interviews
    • Coordinate onboarding for new staff and volunteers using THA’s onboarding tracks, forms, and 30/60/90 day plans and review forms
    • Track background check completion (SC DSS and SLED), mandated reporter training, and signed agreements
    • Maintain accurate, confidential personnel and volunteer files
    • Help administer and update THA policies, including the Policy and Procedure Manual and the Employee and Volunteer Handbook
    • Serve as a first point of contact for employee and volunteer questions, escalating issues to the Executive Director as needed
    • Assist with performance review cycles, role descriptions, and volunteer recognition
    • Prepare brief HR updates for the weekly operations report and board materials

    Qualifications

    • Experience in human resources, recruiting, people operations, or a related field (professional or academic)
    • Working knowledge of onboarding, employee records, and basic employment compliance
    • Strong discretion with confidential information
    • Clear written and verbal communication; well organized and dependable
    • Comfort with online tools such as Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace and applicant tracking systems
    • Commitment to THA’s mission and respect for the families and communities we serve

Preferred (not required): SHRM-CP/PHR or HR coursework, nonprofit or child-serving experience, familiarity with South Carolina employment and volunteer requirements.

    What You Will Gain

    • Hands-on nonprofit HR leadership experience with direct access to the Executive Director
    • A meaningful addition to your resume, with a reference and experience letter upon completion
    • Flexible, mostly remote scheduling
    • The chance to shape HR systems for a growing, mission-driven organization
