    Description

Share the joy of your pet with older adults!

We are looking for volunteers and their pets to bring comfort and happiness to older people in long term care facilities in Boston, Brookline, or Cambridge. Dogs and cats are matched with a nursing home or assisted living facility to visit in person on a regular (weekly or biweekly) basis.

Your pet must love people, be at least 18 months old, and have lived in your home for a minimum of 6 months. We also screen pets using an assessment with an animal behaviorist.

To volunteer, complete a short online application at https://fw4elders.org/get-involved/volunteer-application.html

FriendshipWorks was founded 40 years ago to help reduce social isolation, enhance the quality of life, and preserve the dignity of older adults in Greater Boston. This work is accomplished by recruiting volunteers of all ages, faiths, and backgrounds who provide friendship, advocacy, education, assistance, and emotional support. Volunteers are critical to helping address the serious health risks posed by social isolation in the elder community.

Help us create connections, reduce isolation, and create joy one elder at a time.
