    Description

Volunteers for a Toronto Biosphere Eco-City Council

    BACKGROUND

A Biosphere Eco-City (BEC) is an urban core and its surrounding countryside where

people and organizations cooperate to develop a culture of sustainability. The BEC

approach works through education and involvement. There are BEC initiatives in five

cities: Ottawa, Toronto, Brampton, Edmonton, and Vancouver. Biosphere Eco-Cities

Canada (BECC) supports their development. Toronto BEC (TBEC) teams manage a

large Database of Sustainability Projects and a Youth Climate Action initiative. The

    TBEC website is https://Toronto.BioEcoCity.org

    VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY

BECC is seeking volunteers for a TBEC Council to coordinate BEC activities in Toronto.

The Council will have a variety of tasks, including promoting BEC initiatives, proposing

new projects, evaluating project success, recruiting volunteers for teams, developing

partnerships with local organizations, and writing content for the TBEC website. The

TBEC Council can count on the support of BECC national teams for project

development, fundraising, and communication, as well as board support for leadership

    enhancement.

    OPERATION OF TBEC COUNCIL

The Council will hold monthly online meetings for Toronto people interested in

supporting BEC activities. The only designated position at the start will be that of the

Facilitator, who will send out meeting invitations, agendas and minutes. In the first

meeting or two, Council members will choose their Facilitator. Other members could

take turns chairing meetings and taking minutes until they decided to formalize these

    and other responsibilities.

    SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE DESIRED

Many skills and experiences will be useful. These include a) teamwork, b)

communication, c) writing, d) project development and evaluation, e) event creation, f)

    use of social media.

    EXPECTATIONS & HOW TO APPLY

If you are interested in promoting community-based sustainability in your home city of

Toronto (urban or rural) and can dedicate 15-20 hours per month, please send your

resume or letter of interest to Idowu@BioEcoCity.org
