About PromisePublic | Public Trust, Accessibility & Community Engagement

PromisePublic ensures that MAP’s work is accessible, ethical, and aligned with principles of disability justice and public accountability. The division supports compliance, inclusive design, and equitable access across all programs and operations.

    Role Overview

We are seeking an ADA Compliance & Accessibility Specialist to support MAP in aligning its programs, systems, and practices with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and broader accessibility standards.

This role ensures that accessibility is not treated as a minimum requirement, but as a core part of program design, staff support, and organizational culture.

    Key Responsibilities

    ADA Compliance & Guidance

    • Provide guidance on ADA requirements across programs and operations
    • Support interpretation and application of accessibility-related laws and standards
    • Ensure compliance with relevant federal, state, and local accessibility requirements

    Accommodations & Accessibility Support

    • Support development and implementation of reasonable accommodations
    • Collaborate with teams to ensure accessibility in program delivery and work environments
    • Work closely with the Accommodation Manager on complex or escalated cases

    Policy & Standards Development

    • Contribute to development of accessibility policies, guidelines, and best practices
    • Support integration of Universal Design principles across programs
    • Ensure accessibility considerations are embedded in planning and execution

    Program & Systems Review

    • Review programs, materials, and environments for accessibility gaps
    • Provide recommendations to improve access and inclusion
    • Support ongoing monitoring of accessibility practices

    Training & Awareness

    • Support development of accessibility training and guidance for staff and volunteers
    • Promote awareness of disability justice and inclusive practices
    • Help teams understand responsibilities related to accessibility and accommodations

    Collaboration & Communication

    • Work across HR, programs, and leadership to support accessibility initiatives
    • Maintain clear documentation of accessibility practices and recommendations
    • Maintain timely, professional responsiveness via Google Workspace

    Qualifications

    Required

    • Knowledge of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)
    • Strong understanding of accessibility and disability inclusion principles
    • Ability to interpret policy and apply it in practical settings
    • Strong communication and problem-solving skills
    • Alignment with MAP’s mission and dignity-centered values

    Preferred

    • Experience in accessibility, disability services, or compliance roles
    • Familiarity with Section 504, IEPs, and workplace accommodations
    • Experience with Universal Design and inclusive program development
    • Background in nonprofit, education, or social services

    Commitment

    • Volunteer role
    • Approximately 5–10 hours per week
    • Minimum 6-month commitment preferred
    • Fully remote with optional NYC-based collaboration

    What You’ll Gain

    • Experience in accessibility compliance and disability justice work
    • Opportunity to shape inclusive practices across a growing organization
    • Collaboration with leadership across programs, HR, and policy
    • Professional references and letters of recommendation
    • A meaningful role ensuring equitable access for youth, families, and staff

    How to Apply

Interested candidates must apply directly through Idealist and submit:

    • Resume (required)
    • Cover letter (required) describing relevant experience in accessibility, compliance, or disability services and interest in MAP’s mission

Accessibility is not an add-on—it is a standard.

Help ensure that every program, space, and experience at MAP is designed for inclusion from the start.
