Second Chance Ranch Rescue is a 501 (c) 3 nonprofit dog rescue dedicated to providing individualized care, rehabilitation, and second chances for dogs in need. Through rescue, medical care, training, enrichment, and adoption services, we help dogs become their best selves while connecting them with loving forever homes.

Position Overview

Second Chance Ranch Rescue is seeking a dedicated and experienced Accountant to serve as a volunteer member of the Finance support team. The Accountant plays an important role in supporting the financial health, accountability, and long-term sustainability of the organization.

Working closely with the Treasurer, Board of Directors, fundraising leadership, and operational teams, the Accountant provides essential accounting support, financial recordkeeping, reporting, reconciliations, and budgeting assistance. Their work ensures accurate financial data, strong internal controls, and reliable information that helps advance the mission of SCRR.

Time Commitment

• Approximately 10–15 hours per week
• Additional involvement may be required during major fundraising campaigns, budgeting cycles, audits, and strategic planning initiatives
• Two-year term, renewable

Key Responsibilities

• Monitor organizational revenue, expenses, cash flow, and restricted funds
• Assist the Treasurer with monthly financial reporting and preparation of information for the Board of Directors
• Support the annual budgeting process by maintaining schedules, gathering information and tracking actual results against budget
• Enter and categorize revenue, expenses, donations and other financial transactions in QuickBooks
• Perform regular bank and credit card reconciliations and research discrepancies
• Track accounts payable, expenses, reimbursements and other routine financial activity
• Ensure accurate financial records and reporting systems are maintained
• Support financial tracking for fundraising campaigns, grants, sponsorships, and donor contributions
• Ensure compliance with nonprofit financial regulations and reporting requirements
• Provide financial analysis and recommendations to support Board and organizational decision-making

Qualifications

• Passion for animal welfare and the mission of Second Chance Ranch Rescue
• Experience in accounting, finance, bookkeeping, or financial management
• Understanding of budgeting, financial reporting, and financial controls
• Experience with nonprofit financial operations preferred
• Familiarity with QuickBooks and donor management software is a plus
• Strong organizational and communication skills
• High level of integrity, professionalism, and attention to detail
• Ability to work collaboratively with the Treasurer and other members of the organization
• High level of integrity and discretion when handling confidential financial and donor information
• Dependable, responsive, and comfortable working independently within established financial procedures
