    About the job

Stand Together and Recover Centers, Inc (S.T.A.R.) is strategically planning the next steps for growth and outreach. Part of that plan includes the addition of four impactful members to our board of directors who want to make positive changes.

We are seeking to add four executives with significant expertise in governance, leadership, fundraising, and strategic planning. An understanding of the health care system in Arizona is preferred.

S.T.A.R. is an outpatient non-profit organization that has a Vision of a world where all people with mental health disabilities are accepted, respected, and flourishing in their communities as they live the life they love. S.T.A.R. values are exhibited on a daily basis by our dedicated staff and Board members.

The Board provides fiduciary oversight of S.T.A.R. Directors actively leverage their personal and professional networks to advance our Mission. They engage in regular Quarterly Board meetings, in-person or virtual, and are encouraged to participate in Committee sessions and community engagement activities, while providing organizational support. Directors are all unpaid volunteers giving back to the community, it is an opportunity to truly make a difference in the lives of so many in need!

This is not an honorary board. This is for people who

      • Care about governance and accountability
      • Want to strengthen systems by creating opportunities, not just attend meetings.
      • Bring experience in finance, law, fundraising, healthcare, operations, and strategy.
      • Show up, follow through, and value mission over titles.
      • Are committed to strengthening the sustainability and growth of S.T.A.R to meet the increasing community need.

    We Are Seeking Individuals Who

      • Share a commitment to community health, equity, and wellness, and the value of peer services and the lived experience.
      • Bring diversity of thought, background, and lived experience.
      • Can commit time, resources, and advocacy to advance S.T.A.R. programs and reach in the community.
      • Are collaborative and aligned with non-profit board governance standards.

    Ideal candidates will:

      • Have executive-level experience in one of four key areas of expertise: Chief Financial Officer with strong operational skills; Chief Medical Officer with a specialty of Mental health disabilities or substance abuse addiction, family practice, or general practitioner; Leaders in corporate law and contract management; or Experience in Fundraising and Philanthropy
      • Exhibit a commitment to make our community a better place for the Mental Health and Substance abuse community by leveraging personal and professional relationships to advance our Mission and engage community stakeholders.
      • With Mission Growth as a top strategic priority, expertise in business growth is a plus along with Board experience.
      • A passion for serving individuals with mental health challenges is a must. Lived experience or a personal connection to a close family member or friend is certainly beneficial.
      • Exhibit critical thinking and collaborative problem-solving, and a natural desire for cultivating relationships and aligning consensus among diverse opinions and perspectives for S.T.A.R.’s best interests.
