PENCIL – a 31-year-old nonprofit whose mission is to connect students to success. PENCIL was founded in 1995 with the goal of raising awareness about NYC public schools. We make it easy for businesses and business professionals to connect with schools and their students, to provide them with the relationships, skills, and opportunities to fulfill our mission. Each year, we engage a wide range of business professionals through our volunteer opportunities, such as Principal For A Day, to provide meaningful touchpoints for students.
We are seeking mid-senior and executive-level professionals, or individuals with at least 10 years of professional experience to participate in Principal For A Day. This is a partial-day commitment, of 2 -3 hours, spending time at a school, engaging with the principal, school educators, administrators, and most importantly, the students. We have schools across all five boroughs at all grade levels.
Businesses are typically introduced to PENCIL through Principal For A Day to get an understanding of the breadth of our work and how important initiatives like this are to NYC students. Principal For A Day laid the foundation over thirty years ago for how our work is carried out and has been one of NYC’s most enduring programs that embodies the inspiration and impact needed to ensure that our students reach their full potential.
The address listed is not the official address of our Principal For A Day event. You will receive the address of your paired school once you complete our internal registration form and are confirmed on our roster to be paired with a school.
Please note that we check all volunteers on the New York State Registry of Sexual Offenders to ensure the safety of our students. We do not share this information or any of your responses with your employer.
