Women in Leadership (WIL Uganda) is a grassroots, women-led organisation based in Busembatia, Eastern Uganda.
Our mission: to dismantle inequality and empower women and girls to exercise their rights, build independence, and lead within their communities.
About the Role
As an Economic Empowerment Volunteer Intern, you will support our tailoring, crafts and business skills programmes for women and girls.
You will design and deliver practical workshops that build income-generating skills and confidence.
What You’ll Do
- Deliver training in tailoring, crafts, or creative skills (depending on your experience)
- Support women and girls to develop income-generating skills
- Facilitate group workshops in schools and community settings
- Contribute to basic business skills sessions (pricing, selling, confidence)
- Support programme development and new ideas for income generation
- Work closely with local staff and community groups
What You’ll Gain:

Requirements
- Enrolled in or completed a university degree
- Interest in economic empowerment, social enterprise, or international development
- Practical skills in tailoring, crafts, design, or creative production (preferred but not required)
- Confidence leading group sessions
- Strong communication and initiative
- Willingness to adapt to rural community life
- Laptop required for placement work
Programme Duration & Fundraising Model
(Fundraising-based internship — not a fee)
- 1 month: £1,650
- 2–3 months: £2,450
- 6 months: £3,750
Girls Who Lead Global Bursary
We believe opportunity should not depend on income.
10% of every volunteer’s fundraising contributes to the Girls Who Lead Global Bursary, which fully funds a young woman (18–30, UK-based) from a low-income or underrepresented background to join the programme.

- During weekends, you can travel to nearby Jinja, known for activities such as rafting, kayaking and cultural experiences.
