    About The Armor of God

    The Armor of God is a faith-based nonprofit organization committed to serving individuals and families through outreach initiatives such as food distribution, clothing support, and community-based assistance programs. Our mission is to restore hope, provide resources, and strengthen communities through faith and service.

    Position Overview

    The Board Chair serves as the senior leader of the Board of Directors and plays a critical role in guiding the organization’s governance, strategic direction, and overall effectiveness. The Chair works closely with the CEO and fellow board members to ensure the organization remains mission-focused, financially sound, and positioned for growth.

    This role is ideal for a strong, mission-driven leader who is passionate about community impact and has the ability to lead with integrity, structure, and vision.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Governance: Lead the board in overseeing financial health, compliance, and strategic direction
    • Fundraising Leadership: Champion the board’s fundraising efforts, including fulfilling and encouraging the $5,000 give/get commitment among members
    • Committees: Support and provide oversight to board committees (Finance, Development, Governance, Programs)
    • Visibility: Represent the organization at key events, community events and program engagements
    • Expansion: Leverage leadership networks to introduce prospective donors, partners, and advocates, and support board-wide engagement in growth efforts
    • Leadership & Representation: Serve as the primary board representative, strengthening organizational credibility and community presence
    • Provide guidance and support to the CEO and ensure effective board performance

    Expectations & Commitment

    • Term: Serve a two-year term, with the opportunity for renewal
    • Meetings: Lead and attend scheduled board meetings
    • Give/Get Commitment: Contribute or secure a minimum of $5,000 annually, while helping drive accountability across the board
    • Maintain consistent engagement between meetings and provide ongoing leadership
    • Uphold the highest standards of governance, confidentiality, and ethical leadership

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Prior leadership experience (Board Chair, board member, executive, or senior leadership role)
    • Strong understanding of nonprofit governance and best practices
    • Experience in one or more areas such as:
      • Strategic planning
      • Fundraising / development
      • Finance or budgeting oversight
      • Community outreach or program development
    • Excellent leadership, communication, and facilitation skills
    • Ability to guide discussions, make decisions, and build consensus
    • Passion for faith-based service and community impact
