    Description

Join the Washington Nationals Youth Academy as a Volunteer Mentor and make a lasting impact in the life of a young person. Our mentoring program pairs caring adults with Scholar Athletes in grades 3-8 for consistent, meaningful relationship-building throughout the school year.

Last year, 60 volunteer mentors dedicated more than 1,000 hours supporting Youth Academy students through weekly mentoring sessions. Mentors are thoughtfully matched with a mentee based on shared interests, personality, and compatibility to help foster a positive and supportive connection.

    Responsibilities

    • Commit to meeting with your assigned mentee one hour per week throughout the school year
    • Attend weekly mentoring sessions at the Washington Nationals Youth Academy
    • Build a positive, encouraging relationship with your mentee
    • Participate in structured activities focused on academic growth, goal setting, social-emotional learning, and personal development
    • Serve as a positive role model and trusted adult
    • Maintain regular communication and follow program guidelines

    Time Commitment

    • Weekly Sessions: 6:30 PM - 7:30 PM
    • Days Available: Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday
    • Commitment Length: Full school year (year-long commitment)

    Qualifications

    • Must be at least 18 years old
    • Passion for supporting and empowering youth
    • Reliable, consistent, and able to commit to weekly attendance
    • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
    • Willingness to complete all required volunteer onboarding and background screening processes

    What You'll Gain

    • The opportunity to make a meaningful difference in a young person's life
    • Professional and personal development through mentoring
    • Connection to the Washington Nationals Youth Academy community
    • Ongoing support and resources from Youth Academy staff

No prior mentoring experience is required. We provide training, guidance, and support to help mentors build successful relationships with their mentees.

Together, we can help Scholar Athletes build confidence, develop life skills, and achieve their goals.
