    Description

Graphic Design Intern: Fundraising & Community Engagement

    Position Overview

Community Support Advocates (CSA) is seeking a creative, detail-oriented Graphic Design Intern to develop print materials that support fundraising, donor engagement, and community outreach.

Working with CSA’s Development team, the intern will help transform information about CSA’s programs, services, impact, and community needs into polished, accessible, and visually engaging materials. These resources will equip CSA’s fundraising committee members with practical tools to share the organization’s mission, communicate its impact, build relationships with prospective donors, and connect community members with opportunities to get involved.

The primary focus of this internship is designing a cohesive collection of printed materials that can be used in donor meetings, community events, outreach efforts, and fundraising conversations.

    Key Responsibilities

    1. Print Design & Fundraising Materials

Design a collection of print-ready materials that help fundraising committee members communicate CSA’s mission, programs, impact, and opportunities for support. Projects may include:

    • Program Overviews & Service Materials: Design program one-pagers, brochures, handouts, and visual explanations of common service scenarios to help community members understand CSA’s work.
    • Success Stories & Impact Sheets: Create compelling, visually engaging materials highlighting participant stories, program outcomes, and the difference donor support makes.
    • Events & Community Engagement: Design event flyers, calendars, invitations, and other promotional materials that committee members can share with their networks.
    • Volunteer Opportunities: Develop print materials showcasing ways individuals, businesses, and community groups can volunteer and support CSA.
    • Talking Points & Outreach Resources: Create professionally designed reference sheets featuring key messages, conversation starters, and outreach scripts for fundraising and relationship-building.
    • Engagement Ideas: Design a practical reference sheet featuring ways committee members can introduce others to CSA, deepen relationships, and encourage participation.
    • Donation Tiers & Giving Opportunities: Develop visually clear giving-level sheets, sponsorship materials, and other resources illustrating opportunities to contribute and the potential impact of financial gifts.
    1. Visual Consistency & Production
    • Establish a cohesive visual style across the fundraising committee’s printed materials, using CSA’s existing branding and communication standards.
    • Prepare print-ready files with appropriate dimensions, resolution, margins, and bleed requirements.
    • Develop editable design templates where appropriate so CSA staff can update recurring materials.
    • Collaborate with Development and program staff to gather content, verify information, and refine designs through feedback.
    • Ensure materials are accessible, easy to read, and consistent with CSA’s mission, values, and person-first language.

    Desired Qualifications

    • Interest or experience in graphic design, visual communications, marketing, or a related field.
    • Familiarity with design tools such as Canva, Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, or similar software.
    • Understanding of basic print design and production principles, or a willingness to learn.
    • Strong attention to detail, typography, layout, and visual hierarchy.
    • Ability to translate information into clear, engaging visual communications.
    • Willingness to collaborate with staff and incorporate feedback.
    • Interest in nonprofit communications, fundraising, or community engagement.

    Learning Opportunities

The intern will gain hands-on experience in print design, nonprofit communications, fundraising collateral, and visual storytelling. They will learn how graphic design can support donor relationships, communicate organizational impact, and strengthen community engagement while producing tangible materials for real-world use.

    Anticipated Deliverables

Depending on the internship timeline and organizational priorities, the intern will produce a coordinated set of print assets for CSA’s fundraising committee, potentially including:

    • Program overview sheets and brochures.
    • Success story and organizational impact handouts.
    • Event and volunteer opportunity materials.
    • Fundraising talking points and outreach reference sheets.
    • Donor giving-level and sponsorship materials.
    • Reusable templates for recurring print needs.

Deliverables will be prioritized with CSA staff to ensure the most useful materials are completed first and that final files are ready for professional printing or in-house reproduction.
