    Position Summary

    The Grant Writer is responsible for securing essential funding to sustain PWP’s mission. You will manage the full grant lifecycle—from research and proposal writing to submission and reporting. You will serve as the primary storyteller for the organization to institutional funders, ensuring that every proposal aligns with PWP’s strategic goals and financial policies.

    Operating within the MOCHA framework, you serve as the Manager (M) of the grant pipeline and the Owner (O) of grant compliance, ensuring funds are utilized in accordance with donor restrictions and Board policies.

    Key Responsibilities

    Grant Strategy & Research

    • Pipeline Management: Identify and research local, state, and federal grant opportunities that align with PWP’s four signature programs.
    • Solvency Check: Ensure that PWP only enters into grant arrangements where there is a reasonable expectation of delivering promised results without placing the organization’s financial solvency at risk.
    • Board Alignment: Seek approval from the Board of Directors for any grant request that alters the "Ends priorities" set by the Board or affects governance prerogatives.

    Proposal Development & Writing

    • Drafting: Write high-quality, compelling letters of inquiry, proposals, and grant applications. clearly articulating PWP’s mission, impact data, and budgetary needs.
    • Collaboration: Work with the Program Director and Finance Manager to gather necessary program data and create accurate project budgets for applications.
    • Delegation: Supervise the Grant Writer Assistant in gathering required documents (501(c)(3) letters, board lists, audits) and tracking deadlines.

    Compliance & Reporting

    • Stewardship: Ensure grant funds are used in prudent, lawful, and ethical ways in accordance with donor restrictions.
    • Reporting: Track all grant deliverables and submit timely progress reports to funders.
    • Asset Segregation: Work with the Treasurer/Bookkeeper to ensure temporarily and permanently restricted assets are appropriately segregated in financial records.

    Outcomes & KPIs

    • Funding Secured: Secure a minimum of [Insert Dollar Amount or % increase] in grant funding per fiscal year.
    • Submission Rate: Submit at least 2–3 high-quality grant proposals per month.
    • Compliance: 100% of grant reports submitted on time and in full compliance with donor requirements.
    • Pipeline Growth: Develop a grants calendar projecting deadlines for the next 12 months within the first 60 days.

    Qualifications

    • Experience: Proven experience in grant writing, nonprofit fundraising, or technical writing. Experience with youth development or educational nonprofits is a plus.
    • Skills: Exceptional written communication skills; ability to translate data into compelling narratives.
    • Financial Literacy: Ability to understand and draft program budgets.
    • Organization: Strong project management skills to manage multiple deadlines simultaneously.

    Expectations & Commitment

    • Time Commitment: Estimated 5–10 hours per week.
    • Confidentiality: Must sign a Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA) regarding donor data and internal financial strategies.
    • Policy Adherence: Must adhere to the Conflict of Interest policy, ensuring no personal gain from vendor/grant contracts.
