- July 31st (required in-person training 5-7pm)
- August 2nd (OPTIONAL all-day training at Camp Shady Brook)
- August 3rd-8th for Camp Hope!
Description: The Rose Andom Center is a single, safe place where survivors of intimate partner violence can receive services and resources. A new program was launched in 2021 to also serve children impacted by violence. The mission of Camp Hope & Pathways is to create pathways of hope and healing for campers through positive social interactions and fun activities. Pathways and Camp Hope America-Colorado involves year-round community building activities and a one week sleep away camp. We are looking for Support Staff (ages 24+) to join us for Camp Hope August 3rd-8th at Camp Shady Brook near Deckers, Colorado. Support Staff are volunteers who help support campers (ages 7-16), counselors, and the camp director in all camp programming. Support Staff are required to stay at camp throughout the week. This is a wonderful opportunity to be a positive adult and cheerleader for campers while engaging in outdoor camping activities (horseback riding, ropes course, fishing and swimming, and campfire chats and songs, etc).
Responsibilities:
- Assist the Child & Youth Program Manager in carrying out camp programming (helping with setup, coordination of activities, etc).
- Support counselors as they lead and manage their cabin groups, helping them to set and maintain clear boundaries and emotional and physical safety for everyone.
- Support campers by connecting with them, building positive relationships and providing emotional support when needed.
- Provide enthusiasm and positivity, be a cheerleader!
- Help lead songs, skits, and conversations throughout the day and at evening meetings.
- Use empathy, challenge by choice, and trauma informed care to encourage participants to experience new activities and build relationships with their peers and counselors.
- Help campers identify and increase their understanding of hope – encourage them to believe in themselves, believe in others and believe in their dreams.
- Attend and engage in the evening support staff debrief meetings.
- Have fun, make friends, enjoy the outdoors!
Requirements:
- Bi-lingual Spanish highly preferred
- Ages 24+
- 18-24 year-olds are welcome to apply as a Hope Counselor!
- Team oriented, flexible, ready to step in where needed
- Experience caring for, supervising, or mentoring youth, esp. in an outdoor or summer camp setting
- Comfortable engaging in outdoor, craft, and camp activities incl. water sports and ropes course
- Ability to remain calm and collected in a variety of situations
- Prepared to hear difficult stories of physical, verbal, and emotional abuse
- Prepared to offer emotional support and regulation for campers
- Excellent self-care and mindfulness skills
- Able to be mobile for 60+ minutes at a time, carry 20+ lbs, comfortable living outdoors/camp setting for a week
