    About Mentor A Promise

Mentor A Promise (MAP) is a New York City–based nonprofit dedicated to supporting children and youth experiencing housing instability through mentorship, literacy, social-emotional learning (SEL), and community-centered programming.

Our work is grounded in dignity, equity, and accountability—ensuring that every young person is met with consistency, safety, and the opportunity to thrive.

As we expand our work, we are intentionally strengthening the clinical integrity of our programs to ensure that all services are not only compassionate, but developmentally appropriate, trauma-informed, and ethically grounded.

    About the Clinical Advisory Board

MAP is currently partnering with a community school in New York City, supporting students experiencing significant behavioral and emotional challenges connected to housing instability and trauma.

In response, we are designing a trauma-informed, regulation-centered model that integrates mentorship, social-emotional learning, and school-based support.

To guide this work, we are establishing a select Clinical Advisory Board composed of experienced clinicians and experts in child and adolescent development. This board will ensure that our approach reflects strong psychological, clinical, and evidence-based practices while maintaining dignity-centered, non-pathologizing frameworks.

    Role Overview

We are seeking Clinical Advisory Board Members to provide high-level, strategic guidance on youth mental health, trauma-informed practice, and ethical program design.

This is a senior advisory role with a focused and intentional scope. Members will help shape how MAP builds systems of support that are clinically sound, operationally responsible, and aligned with best practices in youth development and safeguarding.

This role is strictly non-clinical and advisory. It does not involve diagnosis, treatment, or direct service provision.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Provide strategic guidance on trauma-informed, regulation-centered program design
    • Advise on youth behavioral, emotional, and developmental considerations
    • Review and strengthen program frameworks, mentor training, and intervention models
    • Support development of safeguarding, referral, and escalation protocols
    • Identify potential clinical, ethical, and operational risks and recommend mitigation strategies
    • Contribute to building systems that prioritize emotional safety, stability, and dignity
    • Offer perspective on complex or sensitive scenarios when appropriate (advisory capacity only)
    • Participate in quarterly advisory discussions and periodic consultation
    • Maintain timely, professional responsiveness via email and chat in Google Workspace

    Qualifications

    Required

    • Advanced degree in psychology, psychiatry, social work, counseling, or related clinical field
    • Significant experience working with children, adolescents, or families
    • Deep understanding of trauma-informed care, emotional regulation, and youth development
    • Ability to provide systems-level, strategic guidance
    • Strong ethical judgment and commitment to safeguarding
    • Alignment with MAP’s mission and dignity-centered values

    Preferred

    • Licensed clinician (e.g., LCSW, PsyD, PhD, LMHC, MD)
    • Experience in school-based, community-based, or high-need environments
    • Experience advising organizations, programs, or systems
    • Familiarity with housing instability, trauma, and complex social environments
    • Experience developing or reviewing clinical frameworks, protocols, or training systems

    Commitment

    • Volunteer senior advisory role
    • Approximately 5–10 hours per quarter
    • Quarterly advisory conversations with occasional guidance as needed
    • Fully remote with optional NYC-based collaboration

    What You’ll Gain

    • Opportunity to shape a clinically grounded, trauma-informed model serving high-need youth
    • Collaboration with multidisciplinary leadership across education, policy, and program design
    • Professional references and letters of recommendation
    • Meaningful role influencing systems that directly impact children and families
    • Participation in a founding advisory body shaping long-term organizational direction

    How to Apply

Interested candidates must apply directly and submit:

    • Resume (required)
    • Cover letter (required) describing relevant clinical experience and interest in MAP’s mission

We are intentionally inviting a small group of leaders whose expertise can help shape this work with care, rigor, and responsibility.

Given your background, your perspective would be deeply valued as part of this founding group.

Help ensure that every program is not only compassionate—but clinically grounded, safe, and built to support the whole child.

Thank you for your interest in volunteering with our organization. At this time, volunteer opportunities are limited to individuals based in the United States due to legal, safeguarding, data-privacy, and programmatic requirements. We appreciate your interest in our mission and your understanding of these constraints.
