    Description

    OYC Miami is seeking volunteers to provide tutoring and homework assistance to high school students at William H. Turner Technical High School.

    Volunteers will support students with completing assignments, improving academic skills, reinforcing classroom learning, and providing guidance in subjects such as Math, English, Science, and other general coursework as needed.

    This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working with high school students and wants to help them build confidence, strengthen study habits, and stay on track academically.

    Volunteer Responsibilities

    Volunteers may assist with:

    • Homework support
    • Academic tutoring
    • Math, English, Science, and general coursework
    • Reinforcing classroom learning
    • Encouraging student engagement
    • Promoting positive study habits
    • Helping students build academic confidence

    Purpose

    The purpose of this opportunity is to provide academic support and homework assistance that helps students improve academic performance, strengthen study skills, and successfully meet graduation and post-secondary readiness goals.

    Participants Served

    Volunteers will work with approximately 10–15 high school students, boys and girls, ages 14–18.

    Ideal Volunteer

    This opportunity is a good fit for someone who has:

    • Experience working with youth
    • Experience providing tutoring or academic support
    • Strong communication skills
    • Patience and professionalism
    • Comfort supporting high school students
    • Knowledge in Math, English, Science, or general coursework

    Application Requirements

    Interested volunteers must complete the volunteer application and background screening requirements. Experience working with youth or providing academic support is preferred.

    Important Note

    Because this opportunity involves working with minors and requires more than 10 hours per month, volunteers must complete all required compliance and background screening steps before beginning.
