    Description

    Role Overview

    We are seeking a Volunteer Book Production Coordinator to help manage and support the behind-the-scenes process that brings books from manuscript to publication. This role sits at the intersection of editorial, design, formatting, and scheduling, and is ideal for someone who enjoys organization, detail, and shepherding complex projects through multiple stages.

    You will work closely with the Senior Editor / Director of Production and collaborate with volunteer editors, designers, and authors.

    Key Responsibilities

    Coordinate book production timelines and track progress across stages (editing, proofreading, formatting, cover design, metadata, printing/distribution)

    Maintain production checklists and internal trackers

    Communicate with volunteer team members about deadlines, deliverables, and next steps

    Help ensure consistency in files, naming conventions, and version control

    Assist with basic production tasks such as file review, quality checks, and handoffs

    Flag bottlenecks, missing elements, or production risks early

    Ideal Skills & Experience

    Strong organizational and communication skills

    Comfort working with Word, Google Docs/Drive, and shared spreadsheets or project trackers

    Familiarity with publishing workflows is helpful but not required

    Detail-oriented, reliable, and able to follow established processes

    Interest in books, publishing, nonprofit work, or mission-driven media

    Time Commitment

    Flexible and remote

    Approximately 3 hours per week, depending on production cycles
