What if you needed help and there was no one there to assist you? Right now there are people in your area that need help making basic life decisions. As a Volunteer Guardian you can make a world of difference to your neighbor in need.
A guardian is someone who has been appointed by the court to make decisions and take actions for another person who is not able to make decisions for themselves. A guardian is not a caregiver but makes arrangements to ensure the person receives the proper level and type of care, soliciting as much input from the person as possible.
Someone who is currently is need of a guardian is "Betsy"
"Betsy" is a woman in her early 40's with some intellectual disabilities who lives in her own apartment with 24-hour support. She is very pleasant and social, has great positive energy, and enjoys community outings and visiting with her neighbors and their pets. If you ask her, she would be happy to read you a few lines from The Cat in the Hat or show you her lovely drawings! Betsy is in need of a new guardian to ensure her care continues to be well coordinated, her finances are managed to her benefit, and she is able to continue to live as independently as possible. Betsy would also be happy to spend time with a Guardian doing the things she enjoys and will definitely have opinions on the decisions that affect her.
