    Description

    Volunteer Executive Director, Pupcycled

    About Pupcycled

Pupcycled is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that turns upcycled fabric into dog toys, which we then donate to animal shelters. We run through a chapter network of public community-based groups, and school-based chapters. Every toy that comes out of our events extends the life of fabric that would've otherwise ended up in a landfill. Since our first toy-making event in April 2024, our volunteers have made close to 7,000 toys and reached shelters across multiple regions, growing from a two-person idea into a budding organization with corporate partners, an executive team, and chapters that keep multiplying.

One of our co-founders is stepping down as Executive Director, and we're looking for the person who'll take Pupcycled forward from here.

    About the Role

This is a volunteer, unpaid position to serve as Executive Director of Pupcycled. The Executive Director manages day to day operations, including: setting direction for day to day operations, keeping individual chapters and the central organization aligned to our yearly goals, and making sure events, partnerships, impact tracking, and communications add up to a coherent whole. Specifically, you will:

    • Lead annual planning and translate it into quarterly and monthly priorities
    • Run our weekly Executive Team meeting and participate in quarterly board meetings
    • Check in weekly with Board Chair on a set schedule and consistent Slack communication
    • Send a monthly ED brief to the executive leadership team covering what’s working, what's stuck, and what needs attention
    • Manage division heads (current divisions are chapters and marketing, while adding other functions as we grow)
    • Oversee impact tracking, making sure our numbers are collected consistently, reconciled monthly, and used in fundraising and reporting
    • Manage corporate partnership communications until we build out a dedicated team for it
    • Put together a one-year succession plan each year for key leadership roles, including your own
    • Follow set ED KPIs set by BOD
    • Reports to the Board Chair and is evaluated annually by the board

    Who We're Looking For

    • Experience leading teams or organizations, nonprofit or otherwise: we care more about how you lead than where you've led before
    • A collaborative style: someone who wants a real partnership with the board, not sign-off authority or solo decision-making
    • Proactive communication: surfacing problems early rather than after they’re urgent.
    • Alignment with our core mission pillars: sustainability, animal welfare, and building something youth-led and community-driven
    • Experience with nonprofit compliance, grant writing, or social media strategy is a plus, though not required.

    Requirements:

    • 6–10+ hours per week
    • Willing to commit to at least one year as ED
    • 18 or older, based in the United States
    • High school diploma or equivalent

Compensation: This is currently a volunteer role. Our board is exploring a paid stipend for the future.

Pupcycled is an equal opportunity organization. We welcome applicants of all backgrounds and don't discriminate based on race, gender, religion, disability, sexual orientation, or any other protected status.

How to Volunteer for This Opportunity

    How to Apply

Email anusha@pupcycled.org with your resume and a letter of interest. Be sure to include why Pupcycled caught your attention.

If your background feels like a fit, the next steps would be a first conversation with our Board Chair, followed by a meeting with additional members of the board.

We're reviewing applications on a rolling basis, so we'd encourage reaching out sooner rather than later.

If you're forwarding this along to someone in your network, thank you. That's how organizations like ours find the right people.
