Objective
Provide academic support and encouragement to 4th–7th grade youth, ensuring they complete homework and build study skills before daily programming. Tutors help create a positive, consistent environment where students feel supported and prepared for success in school and life.
Schedule
Volunteers are needed Monday–Thursday, 2:45 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. (October 6 – December 18, 2025).
- 2:45–3:30 p.m.: Support homework and academic tasks with younger students (arriving directly after school).
- 3:30–5:00 p.m.: Continue support for older students and assist with program transition and reflection.
- Tutors may serve one day a week or more, but consistency is essential once committed.
Responsibilities
- Assist students with homework in core subjects (reading, writing, math, science).
- Encourage positive study habits and organizational skills.
- Provide one-on-one or small-group support as needed.
- Collaborate with program facilitators and mentors to reinforce classroom learning.
- Monitor student progress and communicate any concerns to coordinators.
- Support smooth transition into enrichment programming and closing reflection activities.
Skills Required
- Strong academic skills in at least one core subject (English/Language Arts, Math, Science, or Social Studies).
- Patience and ability to explain concepts at an age-appropriate level.
- Genuine interest in working with youth from diverse backgrounds.
- Reliability and commitment to consistent attendance.
- Prior tutoring or teaching experience (preferred but not required).
- Bilingual (Spanish) helpful.
