Volunteers help screen children and adults for vision problems in day care centers, pre-schools, schools and community venues such as health fairs. Did you know that 80% of what a child learns comes through the visual system? That's why it is so important to have a child's vision checked early so that he/she can be referred to an eye doctor for treatment. It is also important to screen adults because age-related diseases such as macular degeneration, cataracts, glaucoma, and diabetic retinopathy can create vision problems. Fluency in Spanish would be helpful for this volunteer opportunity.
