    Description

Volunteer Social Media Content & Design Creator

Women’s Survivors Network is seeking volunteer social media content and design creators to help us build a thoughtful, survivor-centered public presence and expand awareness of our work.

WSN is building a long-term ecosystem of guided support, resources, education, and services for women who have experienced abuse across the spectrum, including coercive control, narcissistic abuse, covert psychological abuse, workplace abuse, familial abuse, institutional abuse, and systemic harm.

We are in an early stage of growth and are looking for creative, values-aligned volunteers who can help turn WSN’s ideas, educational content, campaigns, and organizational updates into engaging social media content and visual materials.

This is a collaborative role. WSN leadership will provide direction around messaging, priorities, survivor-centered language, and organizational voice. Volunteers will help bring that direction to life through strong content, thoughtful design, and consistent execution.

    Responsibilities

Social media content and design volunteers may support with:

    • Creating social media graphics, carousels, educational posts, announcements, and campaign content
    • Turning WSN educational materials, ideas, and messaging into clear, engaging social media content
    • Writing or refining captions and short-form copy in WSN’s voice
    • Designing content using tools such as Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, Figma, or similar platforms
    • Helping create reusable branded templates for recurring content
    • Supporting awareness campaigns related to abuse, trauma, survivor support, healing, rebuilding, and systems change
    • Creating content that helps people understand WSN’s mission, programs, resources, partnerships, and emerging work
    • Collaborating with WSN leadership on content priorities, messaging, and revisions
    • Helping maintain consistency across WSN’s visual identity and public communications
    • Contributing creative ideas while working within WSN’s established direction, survivor-centered values, and confidentiality standards

Depending on skills and interest, volunteers may focus more heavily on content writing, graphic design, social media production, or a combination of these areas.

    Ideal Volunteer

We are looking for people who are:

    • Creative, thoughtful, and visually minded
    • Strong communicators with an understanding of how to make complex topics accessible
    • Comfortable receiving direction, feedback, and revisions
    • Able to work within an established organizational voice rather than independently defining messaging
    • Respectful of survivor-centered, trauma-informed, and culturally responsive communication
    • Sensitive to the responsibility involved in communicating publicly about abuse, trauma, and survivor experiences
    • Organized and dependable with assigned projects
    • Interested in survivor justice, education, community care, systems change, and long-term healing

Experience with social media, communications, graphic design, Canva, content creation, branding, or nonprofit marketing is helpful, but we are open to emerging creatives with strong portfolios, good judgment, and a willingness to learn.

    Important Content & Confidentiality Boundaries

Because WSN works with survivors and sensitive subject matter, confidentiality and survivor dignity are central to our communications.

Volunteers will create content from materials and direction provided or approved by WSN. Volunteers will not be expected to interview survivors, access confidential survivor records, develop content from private survivor information, or independently share survivor stories.

WSN does not use a survivor’s name, story, identifying details, image, quotation, or testimonial without appropriate permission.

We are looking for volunteers who understand that powerful storytelling does not require exploiting someone’s trauma.

    Time Commitment

    Flexible, remote volunteer role.

We are especially interested in volunteers who can contribute on an ongoing basis as WSN builds its social media presence, educational campaigns, programs, partnerships, and public communications.

Assignments will be scoped based on organizational priorities and volunteer availability.

    Why This Role Matters

Many forms of abuse remain misunderstood, minimized, or hidden entirely.

Thoughtful public education can help people recognize harmful dynamics earlier, understand that abuse extends beyond physical violence, find language for experiences they may not yet know how to name, and discover pathways toward support.

Strong communications will also help WSN build the visibility, trust, partnerships, volunteer community, and broader ecosystem needed to support survivors beyond crisis—through stabilization, healing, rebuilding, and leadership.

This is an opportunity to use creativity and communication as tools for education, dignity, connection, and systems change while helping shape the early public voice of a survivor-led organization.

    Who We Encourage to Apply

WSN strongly encourages women, survivors, and people with lived experience of harm or systems navigation to apply. We also welcome allies who are deeply committed to survivor-centered, trauma-informed, and culturally responsive work.

Lived experience is valued at WSN, but it is not required for this volunteer role.

We welcome applicants from a range of creative backgrounds, including social media content creation, graphic design, communications, marketing, illustration, digital storytelling, and related fields.
