    About Mentor A Promise

Mentor A Promise (MAP) is a New York City–based nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting children and youth experiencing housing instability through mentorship, education, literacy, social-emotional learning, creative expression, and community-centered programming.

At MAP, storytelling is not simply communication — it is advocacy, preservation, dignity, education, and public trust. Through publishing, journalism, media, and digital storytelling, MAP works to amplify underrepresented voices, elevate lived experiences, and create pathways for young people and communities to be seen, heard, and empowered.

About PromiseVoice | Communications, Editorial & Public Storytelling

PromiseVoice is MAP’s communications, editorial, and public storytelling division. The division oversees blogs, journalism, newsletters, editorial publishing, public narrative strategy, and mission-aligned communications across the organization.

PromiseVoice exists to ensure MAP’s public voice reflects integrity, accessibility, ethical storytelling, and dignity-centered communication practices while strengthening community engagement and public awareness.

    Role Overview

Mentor A Promise is seeking a highly thoughtful, organized, and mission-driven Director of Blogs to lead the strategic direction, editorial standards, contributor management, and publishing operations of MAP’s blog platform.

This leadership role oversees the development and stewardship of public-facing written content related to youth, education, housing, culture, civic life, social impact, and community experiences. The Director of Blogs serves as a key editorial leader responsible for ensuring MAP’s digital publishing ecosystem reflects narrative excellence, ethical storytelling standards, operational consistency, and mission alignment.

The ideal candidate understands that public storytelling carries responsibility. This role requires strong editorial judgment, organizational leadership, collaborative communication, and a commitment to consent-driven, trauma-informed, and dignity-protective storytelling practices.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Lead the overall editorial vision, strategy, and growth of MAP’s blog platform
    • Establish and maintain editorial standards, publishing guidelines, tone, and narrative quality controls
    • Develop and oversee editorial calendars aligned with organizational initiatives, campaigns, and storytelling priorities
    • Recruit, onboard, mentor, and support volunteer writers, editors, contributors, and reviewers
    • Oversee the review, editing, and publication of blogs, essays, commentary pieces, interviews, features, and book reviews
    • Collaborate across PromiseVoice, PromisePress, and PromiseStudios on cross-platform storytelling initiatives
    • Ensure all published content reflects MAP’s safeguarding, accessibility, consent, and dignity-centered storytelling standards
    • Maintain organized editorial workflows, publication timelines, contributor communications, and content review systems
    • Support audience engagement, readership growth, and long-term digital publishing sustainability
    • Help strengthen MAP’s public narrative surrounding youth, housing instability, education, literacy, and community impact
    • Maintain timely, professional, and collaborative communication through Google Workspace systems including Gmail, Google Drive, Google Meet, and Google Chat

    • Ability to maintain professionalism, responsiveness, discretion, and collaborative leadership in a remote environment
    • Alignment with MAP’s mission, values, and dignity-centered communication practices
