Tutors provide valuable assistance to students and teachers in Adult Education Program. We help adults attain their High School Equivalency Diploma (previously known as GED exam) and teach English to immigrants (English as a Second Language.) Tutors volunteer at least one morning or evening a week and may assist teachers in the classroom or work outside of class one on one or with a small group of students.
Approaches vary: tutors may review classwork, help with homework, bring in their own materials or work on something of the student's choosing like a letter to a landlord, or studying for the Citizenship Exam. Tutors may also help students with writing resumes, preparing for job interviews or other career advancing skills.
Tutors receive training and ongoing support from the Volunteer Coordinator as well as the teachers, and may take advantage of free professional development opportunities.
