Mentor A Promise (MAP) is a New York City–based nonprofit dedicated to empowering youth experiencing housing instability through mentorship, education, and community. About PromiseOperations | Organizational Effectiveness

PromiseOperations supports cross-functional coordination across MAP’s divisions—ensuring alignment between programs, people, systems, and strategy. The function connects HR, programs, technology, partnerships, and finance to enable efficient, consistent, and scalable operations.

    Role Overview

We are seeking an Operations Manager (Cross-Functional) to support coordination, execution, and alignment across MAP’s core functions.

This role ensures that priorities move forward with clarity, teams remain connected, and operational gaps are identified and addressed early. The Operations Manager serves as a central point of coordination—bridging departments and supporting organizational effectiveness.

    Key Responsibilities

    Cross-Functional Coordination

    • Support alignment across HR, programs, technology, partnerships, and finance
    • Ensure initiatives have clear ownership, timelines, and follow-through
    • Facilitate communication between teams to reduce silos

    Operational Execution & Tracking

    • Track key projects, priorities, and deliverables across departments
    • Support development of workplans, timelines, and progress tracking systems
    • Ensure consistent follow-up on action items and commitments

    Systems & Process Improvement

    • Identify operational gaps, inefficiencies, and bottlenecks
    • Support development and implementation of improved workflows and systems
    • Help standardize processes across teams

    Leadership & Meeting Operations

    • Support preparation for leadership meetings (agendas, notes, follow-ups)
    • Ensure decisions are documented and translated into action
    • Track progress on organizational priorities

    Communication & Alignment

    • Ensure clear and consistent internal communication across teams
    • Support coordination of cross-functional initiatives and updates
    • Maintain organized documentation across projects and workflows

    Collaboration & Responsiveness

    • Work closely with leadership and team leads across divisions
    • Support coordination of organization-wide initiatives
    • Maintain timely, professional responsiveness via Google Workspace

    Qualifications

    Required

    • Strong organizational and project coordination skills
    • Ability to manage multiple priorities across teams
    • Strong communication and problem-solving abilities
    • Experience in operations, program coordination, or project management
    • Alignment with MAP’s mission and dignity-centered values

    Preferred

    • Experience in nonprofit operations or cross-functional environments
    • Experience supporting leadership or organizational strategy execution
    • Familiarity with workflow systems, project tracking, or process improvement
    • Ability to identify risks and operational gaps proactively

    Commitment

    • Volunteer role
    • Approximately 5–10 hours per week
    • Minimum 6-month commitment preferred
    • Hybrid / remote with optional NYC-based collaboration

    What You’ll Gain

    • Experience in cross-functional operations and organizational leadership
    • Exposure to multiple divisions including programs, HR, tech, and partnerships
    • Collaboration with senior leadership and strategic initiatives
    • Professional references and letters of recommendation
    • A meaningful role strengthening how the organization functions and scales

    How to Apply

Interested candidates must apply directly through Idealist and submit:

    • Resume (required)
    • Cover letter (required) describing relevant experience in operations, coordination, or project management and interest in MAP’s mission
