Online Volunteer Counsellors

We are seeking additional volunteer counsellors to support Afghan girls and women who are experiencing significant emotional distress as a result of prolonged isolation, loss of autonomy, and exclusion from education and work.

This role involves providing short term online talk therapy, typically 6 to 8 sessions per student. The counselling support is specifically for safeguarding and high distress cases. It is not a general wellbeing programme and is offered on a referral basis when concerns arise.

We are looking for counsellors who are calm, compassionate, and able to work with sensitivity in a complex context. Counsellors may be fully qualified or currently in supervised training. Previous experience with trauma, anxiety, or crisis related support is helpful but not essential.

Farsi or Dari is not required, although it would be beneficial. Over 200 of the students we support are fluent in English, and sessions are currently delivered primarily in English.

All counselling is delivered online. Counsellors work one to one with students, independently, but within a coordinated framework. Clear safeguarding processes are in place, and there is internal support for escalation when needed.

This is an unpaid volunteer role. Volunteers are free to determine their level of commitment, from as little as 1 to 2 hours per week.

The expected commitment is for Semester Six, running from the week beginning 19 January to the week ending 24 May.
