    Position Title: Board Director (Volunteer)

    Organization: Babies of Homelessness

    Location Requirement: Must reside in the great Seattle area and be able to attend meetings in person (Eastside)

    About the Role

    Babies of Homelessness (BoH) is seeking a committed, community-minded leader to serve as a Board Director. This is a meaningful opportunity to help guide an organization dedicated to serving vulnerable populations. Your leadership, expertise, and dedication will be integral to our ongoing success and growth.

    Board members are expected to uphold the organization’s values, ensuring that we effectively address the needs of our community while sustaining the mission of our organization.

    We are specifically looking for individuals with previous experience board experience and working with vulnerable populations. This experience is essential to understanding the communities we serve and ensuring thoughtful, informed governance.

    Eligibility Requirements

    • Must live in the local area.
    • Must be able to attend board meetings in person (Eastside location).
    • Prior experience working with vulnerable populations (professional or significant volunteer experience required).
    • Previous board service and/or leadership experience strongly preferred.
    • Demonstrated leadership in team-based environments.
    • Accounting or legal experience a plus.

    Time Commitment

    Board members are required to attend at least 90% of all board meetings, committee meetings, and special events.

    • Board meetings are held every other month on the third Tuesday from 5:00–7:00 PM on the Eastside.
    • An annual retreat is held to review and set strategic goals.
    • Committee meetings are scheduled as needed by committee chairs.
    • Board members are expected to dedicate a minimum of 3 hours per month to support organizational initiatives.

    This time commitment includes:

    • Attending meetings and the annual retreat
    • Responding to emails in a timely manner
    • Voting on key decisions
    • Participating in committee work
    • Conducting research and attending training sessions
    • Supporting organizational events

    Key Responsibilities

    Leadership

    You are a proven leader in team settings and have experience serving on other boards. Board members may be asked to lead a committee, and your project management and organizational skills will be crucial in getting results and driving the initiatives of the organization forward.

    We seek individuals capable of managing multiple responsibilities, motivating teams, and delivering outcomes aligned with the organization’s strategic goals.

    Fiduciary Responsibility

    Board members are expected to review and understand the organization’s bylaws and uphold the fiduciary duties of care, obedience, and loyalty. Active engagement in overseeing the organization’s financial health and strategic direction is essential to ensuring long-term sustainability and impact.

    Financial Oversight

    Board members play a critical role in ensuring financial stability. Responsibilities include:

    • Reviewing financial reports
    • Making informed decisions regarding funding and resource allocation
    • Supporting long-term financial planning

    Fundraising & Giving

    Board members are expected to:

    • Actively participate in fundraising initiatives
    • Leverage personal and professional networks to support development efforts
    • Submit a personal financial giving plan annually

    While there is no set minimum financial contribution, 100% participation in board giving is required to demonstrate commitment to the organization’s sustainability.

    Advocacy & Networking

    Board members advocate for BoH’s mission within their communities and help expand awareness and support. Leveraging personal and professional networks is essential to strengthening the organization’s reach and resources.

    Collaboration & Decision-Making

    As a Board Director, you will work closely with staff and fellow directors to:

    • Support the Executive Director
    • Provide strategic guidance
    • Make key governance decisions
    • Ensure alignment with the organization’s mission and goals

    Term

    Board Directors serve a five-year term.
