    About the Role

    We are seeking a strategic and passionate Head of Marketing (Volunteer) to lead and grow the marketing and communications efforts at OpenGov Africa. OpenGov Africa is a civic-tech initiative using open-source technology, data, and community collaboration to strengthen transparency, accountability, and citizen participation across Africa.

    As Head of Marketing, you will help shape how the organization communicates its mission, campaigns, and research to the world. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys building strategy, leading creative teams, and amplifying meaningful social impact.

    You will be in charge of leadership and collaborate with volunteers across content, social media, design, and research to ensure OpenGov Africa’s voice reaches policymakers, communities, and global audiences.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Marketing Strategy: Develop and oversee the overall marketing and communications strategy for OpenGov Africa.
    • Team Leadership: Lead and coordinate volunteers across marketing roles such as social media managers, writers, and designers.
    • Brand Development: Ensure consistent messaging, tone, and visual identity across all platforms.
    • Content & Campaigns: Guide the creation of campaigns, storytelling content, and awareness initiatives related to governance, transparency, and civic engagement.
    • Digital Growth: Expand OpenGov Africa’s presence across platforms such as LinkedIn, X (Twitter), YouTube, and other digital channels.
    • Partnership Support: Collaborate with research, advocacy, and fundraising teams to amplify campaigns and initiatives.
    • Performance Tracking: Monitor engagement metrics and recommend improvements to increase reach and impact.

    Qualifications

    • Experience or strong interest in marketing, communications, digital media, or brand strategy.
    • Demonstrated leadership or team coordination experience.
    • Strong storytelling, messaging, and content strategy skills.
    • Familiarity with digital platforms such as LinkedIn, X (Twitter), Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, or community platforms.
    • Ability to work independently in a remote and collaborative environment.
    • Passion for governance, transparency, civic technology, or social impact.
