    Description

Help us design a more unified and productive democracy! EnCiv is a non-profit building open-source tools—like Civil Pursuit and Undebates—to transform online political discourse from divisive to productive. Our mission is to foster productive national democratic discourse and unity. We're seeking a talented and passionate volunteer to translate this critical work into compelling visuals.

    The Opportunity

Do you believe design can drive positive social change? We need a volunteer Graphic Designer to create visually engaging materials that clearly communicate our mission and the functionality of our innovative tools. This is a great chance to build your portfolio by working on a high-impact civic tech project with a remote, collaborative team.

    Responsibilities

    • Design engaging social media graphics and other visuals to promote EnCiv's mission and tools.
    • Create and refine branding materials and design elements (e.g., logos, color palettes, visual identity guidelines).
    • Develop clear and user-friendly infographics and presentation slides explaining complex democratic processes and tool features.
    • Collaborate with the marketing and development teams to ensure a cohesive and professional visual presence across all platforms (website, social media, outreach).

    Qualifications

    • Proficiency in design software (e.g., Figma, Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, or similar tools).
    • A strong portfolio demonstrating versatile design skills, particularly in digital and social media content.
    • Ability to translate complex ideas into simple, compelling visual designs.
    • Reliable, self-motivated, and comfortable working remotely and asynchronously.
    • A passion for civic engagement, non-partisanship, and improving democratic discourse.

    Commitment

    • Location: Fully Remote/Virtual
    • Time Commitment: Approximately 5-10 hours per week (flexible schedule)
    • Duration: One time or ongoing

Ready to use your design skills to help unite the nation?

Here's our first task: Breaking out of the Polarized Echo Chamber

A diagram showing how people in a polarized echo chamber can break out. It's a 3 step diagram.

    1. First there are red and blue circles inside a box. Reds are on one side, blues on the other. There are sound waves coming from all the circles toward the middle, but in the middle they are bouncing back.
    2. In the second step, the red and blue circles are organized in circles, in groups of about 10, and the sound waves are going toward the center and not bouncing back, and they are all still in the box.
    3. In the 3rd step, the red and blue circles are gathered in a circle in the center of the box and their sound waves are directed to the sides of the box, and the box is crumbling around them.
