    Description

Mentoring Youth 9th Grade and Older

    Mission

OhanaHC empowers under represented youth in Howard County to define and achieve success; We build community by creating relationships beyond our usual social circles

OhanaHC is a youth mentoring program in Howard County Maryland that pairs youth, 9th grade and older with up to three dedicated mentors.

OhanaHC mentors partner with other volunteers to mentor a young person. The mentors and young person form an Ohana. The mentor commitment is 4-6 hrs a month and 1 year, although we hope for more. The mentees commit to a 10 year relationship with OhanaHC.

The Ohana works together to find out what the student defines as success and breaks down any barriers to that student achieving that success. Success goals have included getting a drivers license, applying to a job, increasing study skills, joining a sports team, applying to college or working through family or friend issues.

OhanaHC conducts training and information sessions to support the mentors and also holds fun activities for all of the Ohana's and families to help everyone get to know each other and have a fun time building community.

We hope you will join us.
