    Description

    Project Goal

To create and submit a neutral, well-sourced, and encyclopedic Wikipedia article for Land Rights Defenders Inc. (LRDI) that meets Wikipedia's strict Notability and Verifiability criteria.

    Role: Wikipedia Expert/Editor

We are seeking a seasoned, independent Wikipedia editor (Wikipedian) who understands the platform's policies and processes, particularly the Articles for Creation (AfC) process and the rules regarding Conflict of Interest (COI).

This is a remote, pro bono (unpaid) volunteer role, requiring a commitment to Wikipedia's core principles of Neutral Point of View (NPOV), Verifiability, and No Original Research (NOR).

    Key Responsibilities

    1. Notability Assessment: Review all existing third-party media coverage, academic mentions, and reputable sources provided by LRDI to confirm that the organization meets Wikipedia's General Notability Guideline (GNG) for organizations.
    2. Source Curation: Identify, evaluate, and prioritize independent, reliable, secondary sources (e.g., national/international news, books, academic journals) that devote significant coverage to Land Rights Defenders Inc. (LRDI's own press releases, website, or social media are generally not considered sufficient).
    3. Drafting: Write the article in a flat, neutral, and encyclopedic tone within a Wikipedia draft space (using the Articles for Creation process). The content must strictly summarize the verifiable information from the identified reliable sources.
    4. Conflict of Interest (COI) Management: Advise LRDI on best practices for managing their COI, including making a public disclosure of the connection to the organization on the volunteer's user page or the draft's talk page.
    5. Submission and Review: Submit the draft for review through the Articles for Creation (AfC) process and respond to any feedback or questions from the volunteer Wikipedia reviewers.

    Qualifications

    • Mandatory: Proven experience editing and contributing to Wikipedia, including a working knowledge of:
      • The Notability policy, particularly for organizations/companies.
      • The Neutral Point of View (NPOV) policy.
      • The use of reliable, independent sources.
      • The Articles for Creation (AfC) process.
      • Proper citation formatting (wikitext/templates).
    • Highly Desired: A strong interest in human rights, environmental justice, Indigenous rights, or non-profit advocacy.
    • Must be Independent: The volunteer must not be an employee, board member, or compensated consultant of Land Rights Defenders Inc. and must agree to publicly disclose this volunteer-based COI.
    • Time Commitment: Flexible, estimated at 10–20 hours over 4–8 weeks, dependent on the complexity of the available sources and the AfC review time.

    Why Volunteer for LRDI?

Your expertise will provide a globally accessible, neutral, and verified record of an organization committed to a vital cause. Land Rights Defenders Inc. is an Indigenous-led 501(c)(3) public charity advocating for fair land policies and defending the rights of Indigenous and native groups globally. By creating a Wikipedia profile, you will:

    • Increase Global Awareness: Help millions of people learn about LRDI's mission and impact.
    • Boost Credibility: Enhance the organization's credibility with donors, partners, and policymakers by having an established, independent encyclopedic entry.
    • Support Social Justice: Directly support the digital presence of a key player in the land and environmental rights movement.
