POSITION OVERVIEW:
The Treasurer serves as the financial steward of the Foundation and plays a key leadership role in safeguarding the organizations financial health, transparency, and accountability.
This individual oversees financial records, reporting and compliance while helping guide responsible fiscal decision-making in alignment with our mission to serve veterans.
The role is ideal for someone who values service, integrity, and using their financial skills to make a meaningful difference.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Financial Oversight/Reporting and Compliance
- Reconciliation for the following: Bank accounts, Morgan Stanley, Paypal, Square, Stripe, Venmo, Bill.com
- Assistance with payment systems during fundraising events
- Vendor management including 1099’s
- Cash Deposits
- Sending Donor Receipts
- Assistance with Tax filings
- Annual S1-100 Statement
- General recordkeeping and tracking of fixed assets
- Financial Statements to the Board
- Maintaining accurate records of all income, expenses and transactions
- Monitoring of bank accounts and cash flow
- Ensure proper handling of donations and grants
- Sending out donor pledge reminders when pledge payments are due
- Overseeing budgets and financial planning
- Ensuring compliance with non-profit regulations and reporting requirements
- Advising the Foundation on best practices to achieve fiduciary excellence
CONTROLS AND BEST PRACTICES
- Establish and maintain internal financial controls
- Ensure transparency and accountability in financial processes
- Recommending financial policies and improvements
- Safeguard organizational assets
COLLABORATION
- Work closely with the Executive Director/President and Board
- Support fundraising initiatives with financial tracking
- Provide financial insight to guide strategic decisions
QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience in accounting, bookkeeping, finance, or business management
- Comfortable working with spreadsheets and basic financial software, e.g. QuickBooks, Bill.com
- Strong attention to detail
- Integrity and commitment to ethical financial practices
- Ability to explain financial information clearly to non-financial stakeholders
HIGHLY VALUED
- Non-profit or volunteer organization experience
- Knowledge of nonprofit compliance requirements
- CPA or accounting background helpful
- Passion for serving veterans and military families
TIME COMMITMENT
- Approximately 5-10 hours per month
- Attend bi-weekly Board meetings
- Additional time during budgeting/reporting periods
