Participant Profile:
- English is her second language (after Farsi); speaks English quite well but appreciates clear and slow speech.
- Originally from Iran, attends English classes 4 times per week.
- Interests:
- Learning piano or singing
- Crocheting (previous interest)
- Listening to music
- Writing and reading (especially biographies of U.S. presidents)
Role Description:
We are seeking a volunteer who can share time with a participant passionate about music and creative activities. The volunteer will:
- Provide beginner-level piano or singing lessons OR engage in musical activities (listening, singing together).
- Encourage conversation in English to support language practice.
- Optionally explore crocheting, reading biographies, or writing activities together.
Ideal Volunteer:
- Patient and clear communicator (comfortable speaking slowly and clearly).
- Enjoys music and/or has basic piano or vocal skills.
- Open to cultural exchange and creative hobbies.
- Knowledge of Farsi is a plus but not required.
Commitment:
- Weekly visits (in-person) or as agreed upon with the Volunteer Coordinator.
- Minimum 1 hour per session.
