    Description

SAHO Climate, Conservation & Community Impact Volunteer Programme

    Position Overview

A hands-on, community-led volunteer opportunity in Tanzania's Coast Region, with the Scientific Agri-Forest and Humanity Organization (SAHO). The program connects environmental conservation with real social impact through genuine local initiatives, focusing on sustainable development, community integration, and cross-cultural knowledge exchange.

    Core Responsibilities

Volunteers participate in a blended weekly schedule (working 4–6 hours per day, Monday to Friday) covering four main areas of impact:

    • Green & Climate-Resilient Schools: Planting fruit trees, building school gardens, and teaching students about climate change, biodiversity, and waste reduction.
    • Community Conservation & Environmental Action: Collaborating directly with local communities on tree planting, clean-up activities, and environmental awareness campaigns.
    • Coastal Conservation & Sustainable Livelihoods: Participating in beach clean-ups and studying mangrove ecosystems to understand the link between nature protection and local income.
    • Women & Youth Empowerment: Partnering with the Nyota Njema Women and Youth Group in Mlingotini Village to support sustainable seaweed farming, processing, value addition, and market access.

    Qualifications & Requirements

    • Age & Language: Must be 18 years or older and comfortable with basic English.
    • Background Checks: Due to working closely with schools and youth, a Criminal Background Check / Police Clearance Certificate is strictly required.
    • Professional Expertise (Optional but highly encouraged): Special skills in Environmental Science, Agriculture, Education, Communications, Seaweed Value Chain, Business Management, Research, Photography, or Digital Marketing to provide specialized, skills-based support.
    • Personal Attributes: A willingness to contribute, deep respect for local communities (acting as a partner rather than an outside "saviour"), flexibility, and a positive attitude. No prior conservation or teaching experience is required.

    Logistics & Other Details

    • Duration: Recommended minimum stay of 4 weeks up to 12 weeks to ensure a lasting impact.
    • Accommodation Options:
