    Description

Do you enjoy reading and sharing stories with others? A simple visit and a good story can make a meaningful difference in someone's day.

As a volunteer with Care Initiatives Hospice, you'll spend time reading aloud to patients who enjoy listening to books, magazines, newspapers, devotionals, poetry, or other favorite materials. Some patients may simply enjoy the comfort of having someone sit with them, read a few pages, and share conversation.

This volunteer role is perfect for individuals who enjoy reading, connecting with others, and bringing warmth and companionship to their community. No medical experience is needed—just a caring heart, a friendly presence, and a willingness to spend time with someone who could use a meaningful connection.

    Volunteer Responsibilities

    • Read aloud to hospice patients in their home, assisted living community, or nursing facility
    • Share conversation and companionship during visits
    • Respect each patient's individual interests, preferences, and comfort level
    • Provide a calm, supportive presence
    • Communicate with the hospice team regarding volunteer visits as needed

    What We're Looking For

    • Compassionate and dependable individuals
    • Good listeners who enjoy spending time with others
    • Comfortable reading aloud
    • Respectful of patient privacy and dignity
    • At least 18 years of age

    Training & Support

All Care Initiatives Hospice volunteers receive training and ongoing support from our hospice team. You'll learn about hospice care, volunteer responsibilities, and how to provide companionship in a meaningful and supportive way.

    Why Volunteer?

The gift of reading is about more than words on a page. It creates moments of comfort, connection, and joy. Whether you're sharing a favorite story, reading the newspaper, or simply spending time together, your presence can brighten someone's day and remind them that they are not alone.

Join us in sharing the joy of reading and making a difference, one visit at a time. 💙
