Online Volunteer Tutor for K-8 Kids (US High School Students)
Details
Description
One kid. One weekly session. Progress you can actually see.
Lumi Learning is a free, student-run 501(c)(3) nonprofit and a 2026 Anthem Awards finalist. We pair high school tutors with K-8 students across the country who need a little extra help in reading, math, and other core subjects. Everything happens online in our own portal, so you can tutor from your bedroom.
You will be matched with one student and meet them at the same time every week for 30 minutes. We train you first, hand you a plan for every session, and give you a diagnostic to run in week one so you know exactly where your student is starting.
What You Get
- Volunteer hours tracked automatically in your portal
- A signed letter from Lumi Learning, available on request after your first semester
- Training before you start and a leadership team that answers your messages the same day
- A student who notices when you show up
What We Ask
- You are a current high school student (grades 9 to 12) living in the United States
- You can hold one fixed 30-minute slot each week for a full semester. Most tutors take two.
- You reply to messages within a day and never leave a family waiting in an empty session
- You are comfortable with K-8 reading and math and patient when a kid is not
