Are you called to use music as a source of comfort, connection, and dignity at end of life? We are seeking a Music Therapy Intern to join our Hospice and Hospice Inpatient Unit team and support patients and families through compassionate, person‑centered care.
The Music Therapist Intern will work under the supervision of a Board‑Certified Music Therapist (MT‑BC) to provide therapeutic music interventions to patients receiving hospice care, including those in an inpatient hospice unit. This internship offers meaningful clinical experience in end‑of‑life care, focusing on emotional support, legacy work, pain and symptom management, and family engagement.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in planning and facilitating individual and group music therapy sessions for hospice patients
- Provide therapeutic support to patients and families coping with terminal illness, grief, and anticipatory loss
- Utilize music interventions for relaxation, comfort, emotional expression, reminiscence, and legacy‑building
- Observe, document, and evaluate patient responses in accordance with hospice care standards
- Collaborate with the interdisciplinary hospice team (nursing, social work, chaplaincy, volunteers)
- Participate in clinical supervision, team meetings, and professional development activities
Qualifications:
- Enrollment in an AMTA‑approved Music Therapy program
- Completion of required academic coursework prior to internship (per university guidelines)
- Emotional maturity and comfort working with end‑of‑life populations
- Strong interpersonal, musical, and reflective skills
- Compassionate, professional, and flexible approach to care
