Front Desk Support

About Us:

Family Promise of Essex County works to prevent and end homelessness for families by providing housing, case management, and supportive services. We’re seeking a reliable and welcoming volunteer to support our front desk operations and help us create a positive first impression for everyone who walks through our doors.

Position Overview:

The Front Desk Volunteer plays a key role in ensuring our office runs smoothly and that clients, partners, and visitors feel supported and directed appropriately.

Responsibilities:

• Answer and direct incoming phone calls
• Greet visitors and manage the front door
• Help guide clients to the appropriate staff or services
• Assist with light administrative tasks (filing, data entry, organizing materials)

Qualifications:

• Friendly, professional, and patient demeanor
• Comfortable interacting with diverse populations
• Strong communication skills
• Ability to maintain confidentiality
• Basic computer skills (email, data entry)

Location: On-site at our office in Montclair

Commitment: This is an ongoing opportunity - we are looking for support on MONDAYS. You can make your own hours. Our other volunteers usually do a four-hour shift during our busiest times (10-2 or 11-3)
