    Description

Hair Dresser/Barber (Cosmetology) York, Adams, and Franklin Counties

Hair Dresser/Barber Volunteers - Amedisys Hospice of York seeks caring, compassionate individuals who would be willing to spend a few hours a month (as needed)shampooing, cutting, trimming, and styling the hair of our terminally ill patients. Hair Dresser /Barber Volunteers spend quality time with our patients and provide special care and attention, allowing our patients to feel better and special. Volunteers play an important role in providing social support and decreasing isolation that can so often occur for the terminally ill.

Volunteers are provided free training, a training certificate, and can work flexible hours that suit their individual schedules. Volunteers are trained and supervised by the Volunteer Coordinator.

    Skills:

    • Interpersonal Skills: Volunteers need to be able to engage in conversations with patients who communicate on different cognitive levels. Some patients may not be able to or choose not to communicate while others will look forward to talking with you about many different topics.

    Requirements:

    • Be able to provide own transportation*
    • Complete an application with references, initial training and orientation
    • Complete background check (free)
    • Tuberculosis tests (free)
    • We ask you to make a 1-2 hours a month commitment to our volunteer program, if possible, but you can always do more!
    • Out of respect for the grieving process, if you are a surviving family member, we encourage you to wait a minimum of 12 months following the patient's death to serve as a direct care volunteer or in public relations activities.
