    About Amedisys Hospice

Amedisys Hospice is committed to providing compassionate, patient-centered end‑of‑life care. Our volunteers play a vital role in supporting patients and families, offering comfort, presence, and kindness during one of life’s most meaningful moments.

If you’re a student hoping to make a difference, gain professional experience, or explore a career in healthcare, social work, counseling, or human services, this opportunity is for you.

    What Student Volunteers Do

We offer a variety of ways for students to serve, based on your interests, comfort level, and schedule:

    In-Person, Direct Support

    • Visit and provide companionship to patients
    • Read aloud, talk, play music, or simply sit in peaceful presence
    • Provide emotional support to families
    • Visit patients in their homes or long‑term care communities

Indirect or Creative Support (In-Person or Remote Options)

    • Create legacy projects (memory books, letters, recordings, crafts)
    • Make cards or comfort items for patients and families
    • Assist with nonprofit outreach, events, or administrative projects
    • Support bereavement or volunteer services teams with special assignments

    Training & Support

    No experience is required.

Amedisys provides free, comprehensive training to prepare you for your role. Volunteers receive ongoing guidance and support from the Volunteer Services Team.
