Exhibit Interpreter Volunteer
Details
Description
Interested in learning more about the ocean and getting involved in the Santa Barbara community? Santa Barbara Museum of Natural History Sea Center is seeking volunteers to serve as Exhibit Interpreters and help inspire a passion for the natural world.
Volunteering at the Sea Center is a hands-on experience focused on educating visitors about our local marine environment. As an aquarium and science center, volunteers begin by assisting guests at the tide pool and shark habitats, helping them safely interact with marine wildlife. Volunteers also support activities at the Wet Deck, an interactive exhibit modeled after a research vessel, where visitors can collect water, sand, and plankton samples, test turbidity and salinity, and explore the ocean beneath the pier.
In addition to working with the public, volunteers have opportunities to participate in monthly advanced trainings, appreciation events, and field trips.
Volunteer commitment:
- One 3-hour shift per week
- Four-month minimum commitment
- Minimum of 48 service hours
Our volunteers cover a wide range of ages, but volunteers must be at least 11 years old. Those ages 11 to 13 must volunteer with a parent or guardian.
