Volunteer Opportunity: Companionship Hospice Volunteer

Time Commitment: Flexible: we ask volunteers for 3-4 hours a month

Hospice of the Midwest's mission is to consistently provide our patients and their families with compassionate, individualized, supportive care and comfort at the last phase of one’s life journey. We believe that no one should face the journey of hospice care alone. We are seeking compassionate, empathetic individuals to volunteer as companions for our patients.
Position Summary
We are seeking caring and dependable individuals to serve as Companionship Hospice Volunteers. In this role, you will offer emotional support and presence to patients receiving hospice care. Your time and companionship can make a profound difference in reducing loneliness and enhancing quality of life.
As a Hospice Volunteer, you will offer emotional support, companionship, and a caring presence to individuals receiving hospice care. Your role is vital in improving our patients' quality of life by helping them feel less isolated, enhancing their emotional well-being, and creating meaningful moments. You will also provide support to families, offering them comfort and a listening ear during a challenging time.
Some of the different volunteer opportunities we have are Patient companionship, music, certified pet therapy, Veteran to Veteran, Legacy Letters, Office/ Administrative work, Making cards, prayer Shawls, Quilts.
We typically ask our volunteers to commit to a visit with a patient twice a month. If you want to do more, great! We also start volunteers out with one patient, but if a volunteer would like to see more patients, we will gladly accommodate!
Qualifications:
Compassionate and caring nature with a genuine desire to help others.
Good communication and listening skills.
Ability to engage with people of different backgrounds and personalities.
Willingness to respect patient privacy and cultural diversity.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
No prior experience required – training will be provided.
Must be at least 16 years or older.
Our Onboarding process includes the following:
Filling out HR Paperwork
State/ Federal Mandated background check, Digital finger printing, and drug screening.
2, two step TB Mantoux Testing
