    Mentor A Promise (MAP) is a New York City–based nonprofit dedicated to empowering youth experiencing housing instability through mentorship, education, and community. As MAP grows, the quality of student experience becomes essential to ensuring that every young person feels supported, engaged, and able to thrive.

    About PromiseLearning | Education & SEL

    PromiseLearning is MAP’s education division responsible for academic support, social-emotional learning (SEL), and student experience. The division ensures programming is structured, trauma-informed, and aligned with identity development, emotional growth, and student well-being.

    Role Overview

    We are seeking a Youth Experience & SEL Facilitator Lead to strengthen the design, delivery, and consistency of student experience across MAP programs.

    This role ensures that sessions are engaging, structured, and aligned with trauma-informed practices, while supporting facilitators and mentors in delivering high-quality, consistent experiences for students.

    This is a program quality and experience leadership role that directly impacts how students feel, engage, and grow within MAP.

    Key Responsibilities

    SEL & Experience Alignment

    • Support development and refinement of SEL activities and session structures
    • Ensure sessions are aligned with trauma-informed and culturally responsive practices
    • Support integration of identity-building frameworks across programming

    Facilitator & Mentor Support

    • Guide facilitators and mentors in delivering consistent, high-quality student experiences
    • Provide feedback, support, and best practices for engagement and group management
    • Help strengthen facilitation consistency across sites and programs

    Program Quality & Observation

    • Observe sessions and identify opportunities to improve delivery and engagement
    • Support alignment across program components (SEL, homework support, enrichment)
    • Help standardize strong facilitation practices

    Student Experience & Engagement

    • Ensure sessions are inclusive, engaging, and developmentally appropriate
    • Support strategies that promote belonging, emotional regulation, and confidence
    • Help maintain safe, structured, and supportive environments

    Collaboration & Continuous Improvement

    • Work closely with Program Managers and Site Coordinators to strengthen implementation
    • Incorporate feedback from students, mentors, and families into improvements
    • Support development of facilitator resources and training materials

    Systems & Communication

    • Maintain organized documentation of observations, feedback, and improvements
    • Support alignment across PromiseLearning programs
    • Maintain timely, professional responsiveness via Google Workspace

    Qualifications

    Required

    • Experience in education, youth development, or social-emotional learning
    • Strong facilitation and communication skills
    • Ability to support and guide facilitators and mentors
    • Strong organizational and observation skills
    • Alignment with MAP’s mission and dignity-centered values

    Preferred

    • Background in education, psychology, or social work
    • Experience working with youth experiencing adversity or housing instability
    • Experience with SEL curriculum or program design
    • Familiarity with behavior support and classroom management strategies

    Commitment

    • Volunteer leadership role
    • Approximately 5–10 hours per week
    • Minimum 6-month commitment preferred
    • Hybrid with optional NYC-based in-person engagement
