    Description

    About Outside The City

Outside the City (OTC) is an outdoor youth program serving at-risk young people ages 13–24 across Los Angeles and Orange County. We take youth who face significant barriers — poverty, system involvement, urban isolation — and bring them into the outdoors: hiking, camping, and wilderness experiences designed to build confidence, resilience, and connection to the natural world. OTC is a program of Teen Health, Inc., a 501(c)(3) nonprofit based in Tustin, CA.

We are developing an earned income model built around corporate partnership packages and paid programming — creating a sustainable revenue stream that funds free and subsidized outdoor experiences for the youth we serve.

    About this project

OTC is growing its corporate partnership and earned income strategy — including branded outdoor experiences, team-building events, and sponsorship packages for companies that want to connect their employees and brand to meaningful outdoor and youth-development work.

We need a skilled marketing professional to help us build a clear, actionable marketing plan for reaching corporate partners, sponsors, and other earned income customers. Your work will shape how we grow sustainable, mission-aligned revenue so we can expand programming and eventually acquire land for overnight and multi-day wilderness experiences.

Note: This project focuses on strategy and planning. Content creation (emails, print materials, social media posts) is not included.

    Project plan

Prep: Information Sharing & Goal Setting

    • Meet with OTC leadership for a kickoff session covering programs, corporate partnership model, current outreach efforts, and revenue goals
    • Review existing materials including our corporate one-pager, program statistics, and brand identity
    • Outline next steps and timeline for the project

    Milestone 1: Strategy Sessions

    • Lead up to 3 collaborative sessions with OTC leadership to define target audiences (corporate partners, sponsors, outdoor brands, event buyers), key messages, and marketing channels
    • Identify which channels — LinkedIn, direct outreach, event marketing, digital, sector- specific pitching— make the most sense for our capacity and goals
    • Make recommendations on strategies to build awareness, drive engagement, and support partnership sales

Milestone 2: Marketing Plan & Roadmap

    • Draft written marketing plan with recommended strategy, target audiences, channels, messaging, and timeline
    • Suggest simple, actionable next steps on implementing the plan
    • Meet with OTC team to present and finalize the plan and discuss outstanding questions

    Skills we're looking for

    • Background in marketing, business strategy, entrepreneurship, or social enterprise
    • Experience developing marketing or go-to-market plans for products, services, or sponsorships
    • Familiarity with B2B marketing, partnership development, or cause marketing is a strong plus
    • Bonus: experience marketing outdoor, wellness, or youth development programs to corporate audiences

    Time commitment

    Duration: 3–5 weeks

    Volunteer hours: Approximately 10–20 hours

Organization hours: Approximately 4–6 hours (your point of contact will be OTC's Founder &

    President)

Location: Remote — works from anywhere

    What we'll provide

    • Our existing corporate partnership deck and program one-pager
    • Program statistics and youth impact data
    • An overview of current outreach channels and what has/hasn't worked
    • Clarity on staff capacity and any available budget for marketing execution
    • Direct access to OTC's founder for strategy sessions

    Why this matters

OTC runs on lean funding and big belief. Corporate partnerships are central to our model: they fund youth scholarships, outdoor gear, guided experiences, and ultimately, land acquisition for a permanent base camp. A strong marketing plan helps us pursue that mission with strategy behind it — not just hustle. If you care about youth, the outdoors, or building something with staying power, this is the project for you.
