    About Us

The Well of Mercy is a nonprofit, transitional housing program providing safe, stable housing and a pathway to independence for women and their children in Chicago. Our residents can stay for up to five years while completing education, securing employment, and rebuilding their lives. We take a family-centered approach that blends dignity, community, and opportunity.

    Position Overview

We are seeking a compassionate, organized Volunteer Team Lead to help guide and support the volunteers who keep The Well running smoothly. Volunteers play a vital role in childcare, household support, administrative tasks, events, and donation coordination. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys people, service, and building community while strengthening the impact of a mission-driven nonprofit.

This is an unpaid volunteer leadership role with flexible hours.

    What You'll Do

    • Recruit and onboard volunteers by welcoming new members, providing orientation, and helping them feel comfortable and confident in their roles
    • Coordinate volunteer schedules to ensure coverage for childcare, nursery help, donation sorting, administrative support, tutoring, and other ongoing needs
    • Support, guide, and encourage volunteers through regular check-ins, clear communication, and problem-solving
    • Maintain volunteer records including hours, roles, and engagement notes
    • Develop appreciation initiatives to recognize and celebrate volunteers' contributions
    • Collaborate with staff and leadership to understand evolving needs and match volunteers with meaningful roles
    • Foster a welcoming, inclusive atmosphere where volunteers feel valued, respected, and connected to the mission

    What We're Looking For

    • Strong people skills, warmth, and the ability to make others feel welcome
    • Good organization and communication skills
    • Comfort managing schedules, messages, and follow-through
    • Ability to work independently and with a team
    • Interest in supporting women and children rebuilding their lives
    • Prior experience with volunteers, human services, childcare, or nonprofit work is a plus (not required)

    Time Commitment

Flexible schedule, Part-time. Depending on volunteer needs, orientation sessions, and events.

    Why Volunteer With Us?

    • Make a direct, meaningful impact on families
