    Description

If you are passionate about making a difference, please consider volunteering with us!

FoodRecovery.org is a nonprofit organization dedicated to fighting wasted food and food insecurity at the same time. Through our platform, we connect organizations with surplus food to communities in need, championing sustainability by diverting edible food away from landfills.

We are seeking someone knowledgeable and passionate about using AI to benefit people. We are building an application that requires an optical character recognition component and a strong dataset is necessary to train and improve the tool. Your role would be to assist in model training and create “source of truth” documents to compare the model results against.

    Why Volunteer With Us?

    • Make a direct impact on food insecurity and environmental sustainability.
    • Use your professional skills for good.
    • Gain hands-on experience in a growing nonprofit.
    • Be part of a collaborative, purpose-driven team.

    Volunteer Commitment

We are offering a 3-month volunteer interval, with flexible schedules depending on the role and your availability. All your help would be 100% done remotely.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Generate and validate training data for LLMs
    • Coordinate with engineering staff to identify patterns of failure, inconsistencies, and any other issues with model results

    What We’re Looking For:

    • A genuine passion for making a difference.
    • Reliability and a willingness to collaborate.
    • Strong verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Experience using and training LLMs
    • Familiarity with TypeScript, JavaScript, Firebase, and Google Gemini preferred
    • Strong communication and the ability to translate between technical and non-technical terms
    • Alignment with our mission and values.

    Ready to Get Involved?

If you’re excited about reducing food waste, supporting communities in need, and using your talents for good, we’d love to hear from you.

    What You’ll Gain:

    • Make a meaningful impact on ending hunger and preventing edible food from going to waste.
    • Opportunities for mentorship, networking, and skill-building.
    • Real-world communication and outreach skills.
    • Collaborate with a passionate, mission-driven team.
    • Join a community of changemakers working toward a more food secure and sustainable world.
    • Letters of recommendation upon request.

    How to Apply:

Please submit an email (no attachments at this time please):

    • A brief introduction about yourself.
    • Your availability (start date, and hour per week).
    • Any relevant experience.
    • Why are you interested in volunteering with us?

    If you have questions:

Please send an email to amanda@foodrecovery.org.
