    Description

The Sojourner Project is seeking a dedicated, detail-oriented in-state volunteer to assist with ongoing genealogical and land research connected to American Descendant of Slavery histories. This role is critical to uncovering and preserving records that are not yet accessible to the public.

The volunteer will conduct in-person research at the Tennessee State Library and Archives, as well as local county archives when necessary. Responsibilities include locating and reviewing historical land records, deeds, and other archival materials that support current genealogical and land-based research efforts. The volunteer will also assist in scanning and digitizing documents to ensure their preservation and accessibility for continued study.

Due to the sensitive and ongoing nature of this work, all research, findings, and case-related information must remain strictly confidential and are not to be discussed outside of the organization.

This role is ideal for someone who is highly organized, trustworthy, and committed to historical accuracy, preservation, and the mission of advancing research for American Descendants of Slavery.
