    Volunteer Opportunity Overview

    Amedisys Hospice is seeking Veteran Volunteers to support hospice patients—particularly fellow Veterans—through companionship and emotional support. Veteran-to-Veteran connections offer a unique bond rooted in shared experience, respect, and understanding.

    This volunteer role allows Veterans to continue serving others in a deeply meaningful and compassionate way.

    Key Responsibilities

      • Provide companionship and supportive presence to hospice patients
      • Offer emotional support through conversation, listening, or quiet reflection
      • Support Veteran patients by honoring and acknowledging their military service
      • Assist with activities such as reading, letter writing, or reminiscing
      • Maintain patient confidentiality and professional boundaries
      • Communicate and collaborate with the hospice care team as needed

    Qualifications

      • Veteran status (all branches welcome; active duty, reserve, or retired)
      • Compassionate, dependable, and respectful demeanor
      • Comfortable providing support in end-of-life settings
      • Strong listening and communication skills
      • Completion of Amedisys Hospice volunteer training and orientation (provided)
      • Background screening in accordance with hospice regulations

    No prior hospice or healthcare experience is required.
