    Description

    Systems Administrators, Volunteer

    About the Pet Cancer Foundation

The Pet Cancer Foundation’s vision is to increase the life expectancy and improve the quality of life of pets diagnosed with cancer. Each year, an estimated 12 million dogs and cats are diagnosed with cancer, six times the number of humans affected annually in North America.

As our volunteer organization continues to grow rapidly across North America, maintaining a reliable, secure, and user-friendly technology environment is essential to supporting our distributed team. The Systems Administrator will play a key role in managing our current Google Workspace environment and preparing for future technology needs. That’s where and how you can help us.

    About the position

The volunteer Systems Administrator is responsible for the day-to-day management, support, and optimization of PCF’s technology systems, with a primary focus on Google Workspace (Business). You will manage user accounts and permissions, provide training and support to volunteers, troubleshoot technical issues, maintain documentation, and ensure the security and efficiency of our current tools. You will also help evaluate and plan for future technology solutions as the organization scales.

    • Please leave a note with your application acknowledging your awareness of the volunteer nature of this position. We will only contact and proceed with candidates who confirm their understanding.

    Duties and Responsibilities

    • Manage and administer PCF’s Google Workspace environment, including user accounts, groups, permissions, security settings, storage, onboarding, and offboarding processes.
    • Provide technical support and troubleshooting for volunteers and team members, resolving issues in a timely and professional manner.
    • Contribute to the creation and maintenance of clear technical documentation, onboarding resources, user guides, and process documentation to support organizational continuity, self-service, and training.
    • Provide ongoing support to help volunteers effectively use PCF’s collaboration and operational tools, including Google Workspace and other approved systems.
    • Monitor system performance, security, and compliance with best practices and relevant data protection requirements.
    • Collaborate with department leaders to understand technology needs and recommend improvements or new solutions as the organization grows.
    • Assist with the setup and configuration of new tools and systems when introduced.
    • Support basic cloud administration tasks and help ensure system components work together efficiently.

    About You

You’re a reliable, service-oriented systems administrator who enjoys supporting users and maintaining clean, efficient technology environments. You’re comfortable working in a small-scale, mostly Google Workspace environment while having knowledge of broader IT systems for future growth. You bring:

    • 3+ years of experience administering Google Workspace (or similar cloud platforms) in a professional or nonprofit setting.
    • Strong troubleshooting and technical support skills with the ability to explain solutions clearly to non-technical users.
    • Experience creating documentation, user guides, and delivering training.
    • Solid understanding of security best practices, user management, and basic cloud administration.
    • Excellent organizational and communication skills; ability to work independently in a remote, volunteer-driven environment.
    • Patience and a helpful attitude when supporting users with varying levels of technical comfort.
    • Genuine interest in PCF’s mission and a desire to contribute to a growing nonprofit through reliable technology support.

    What we provide you with

Volunteering as Systems Administrator gives you the opportunity to build and maintain the technological foundation of a growing national nonprofit. You’ll gain experience supporting a distributed volunteer team, help shape our technology roadmap for the future, and contribute to a growing nonprofit resource that makes a real difference in the lives of pets and their families.
