Do you know how to be a good friend? Then you might make a good Compeer volunteer! As a volunteer with our nonprofit program, you can boost another person's self-esteem, reduce loneliness, and increase their well-being as they deal with mental health challenges.
Volunteers receive training and can choose their friend. Pairs are matched up based on shared interests, location, and other factors. After you meet your friend, staff provide ongoing support. Occasional group events give you a chance to spend time with other matched Compeer friends too.
You and your friend decide the times you meet or talk. Activities can include whatever safe activities you and your friend choose, such as meeting for coffee or a meal, taking a walk, shopping, or going to a community event. We ask that volunteers try to interact with their friend (including phone, texting, etc.) for about 4 hours per month.
Through the gift of friendship, you will gain a sense of satisfaction and personal growth and have the opportunity to help another person.
