    Media Outreach Coordinator (Volunteer)

    Organization: A Free Bird | 501(c)(3) Nonprofit

    Location: Remote

    Commitment: 5–10 hours per week | Minimum 3–6 month commitment

    Job Description

    The Media Outreach Coordinator supports A Free Bird’s Public Relations and Communications efforts by building and maintaining relationships with media outlets, journalists, and digital platforms. This role focuses on increasing visibility, securing coverage, and expanding awareness of the organization’s mission and programs.

    You will work closely with the PR, Marketing, and Communications teams to identify storytelling opportunities and execute outreach strategies that amplify A Free Bird’s impact.

    Responsibilities

    • Research and identify relevant media outlets, journalists, and platforms for outreach
    • Assist in developing and distributing press releases, pitches, and media materials
    • Build and maintain media contact lists and outreach databases
    • Conduct outreach via email and other channels to secure media coverage and partnerships
    • Track media placements, coverage, and outreach performance
    • Collaborate with internal teams to gather stories, updates, and campaign materials
    • Support the promotion of campaigns, events, and key organizational initiatives
    • Help expand and nurture relationships with media and digital communities

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree in Public Relations, Communications, Journalism, or related field (or equivalent experience)
    • 1–3 years of experience in PR, media outreach, communications, or related roles
    • Strong writing and editing skills with attention to detail
    • Ability to craft compelling pitches and identify newsworthy stories
    • Strong organizational and research skills
    • Ability to manage multiple outreach efforts and meet deadlines
    • Familiarity with media databases, PR tools, and social platforms is a plus
    • Existing media contacts or relationships are a plus

    Additional Information

    • Fully remote position
    • Flexible schedule
    • Minimum 3–6 month commitment required
    • Must have access to a computer and reliable internet
    • Availability for periodic virtual meetings
